CAR REVIEW: AUDI S3 RACING TUNED

Based on the A3 hatchback, the Audi S3 is not available in North or South America – though it is for sale in Mexico – but it’s an impressive little four-wheel drive hot hatch. Its 2-liter turbo four-banger pumps out 261 horsepower, more than enough to get its 3,300-pound body going very quickly.

The most remarkable changes on the outside compared to the S3 standard features is a special aerodynamic kit. To produce enough downforce an impressive rear wing and a bigger front splitter were installed. Under the hood the turbocharged S3-four-cylinder engine was pushed up from 261bhp to 310bhp, effected by a modification of the engine control unit. To survive the most demanding endurance race and the 73 corners of “The Ring” the S3 gets the high-performance-brakes of the new Audi R8 sportscar at the front. The rear still retains the 345mm ventilated discs of the regular S3. Due to the particular conditions the S3 front axle was changed into an axle of the newest TT-generation. Another modification took part in 6-speed manual gearbox which was changed into a direct-shift gearbox (Audi S-Tronic). The gear selection could be managed extremely fast with the shifting-pedals behind the steering-wheel. For racing conditions the shift speed was reduced to some milliseconds.

Some nice Comotive Rims
